The RTA offers four specific planning, operating, and capital funding programs. These programs target projects that are innovative and will increase transit usage, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the region's current transit system, provide for better mobility for seniors and people with disabilities, and improve job access.

The RTA Planning Department's integrated planning programs and projects help transit relate better to the communities it serves, improve travel connections, and utilize new technologies for real-time passenger information and transit asset management.

2040 Regional Comprehensive Plan

The 2030 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) has been superseded by the 2040 Regional Comprehensive Plan developed by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). For more information on the 2040 RTP visit CMAP's Go To 2040 web site.

2030 Regional Transportation Plan

The RTAMS contains an inventory of the major capital projects in the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan, the long-range, multi-modal transportation plan for northeastern Illinois. The RTP is developed and updated triennially by the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS), the Metropolitan Planning Organization for northeastern Illinois.
